Pękalski Zdzisław was born in 1941 in Lwów. In 1959 he passed a secondary – school leaving examination. In 1962 he graduated The Tutorial College in Rzeszów and in 1980 the University named after Maria Curie – Skłodowska in Lublin, where he graduated as a Master of Arts. In 1969 he started exposing his own creation (in 1999 he had 8 exhibitions in Poland, among them in Jarosław, Przemyśl, Rzeszów, Tarnobrzeg, Ostrów Świętokrzys­ki). He arrived to Hoczew in 1963 and started working in a local Primary School. From 1993 he is a retired person who works with young people. Some of them graduated the Academy of Fine Arts and a lot of them have finished secondary art schools. His interests are different. He collects the information about Hoczew’s history and he is also a poet. His poems could be found in many magazines. He also is going to publish his own volume of poetry. He creates the paintings only on the old boards. In 1998 he opened in a cellar at home an own gallery. He paints mostly the saints. The gallery is opened all year round. Zdzisław Pękalski has got an older brother, who is a politolog, a lawyer and a proffesor at the University in Warsaw.
